How to get a stay in Germany at a lower price?
Lynn Demayer June 11, 2021
Do you dream of going to Germany, but your budget is small? This article presents a comparison of means of transport depending on whether you want to visit Berlin and the east of the country or the west, whether you go alone or accompanied. It is an ideal solution for comfortable accommodation at low prices and food without exaggeration.
Travel: compared means of transport
Plane Plane is an economical way to go to Germany from France. To get € 30 tickets from Paris to Berlin, book in advance, at the last minute or during the low season. To minimize costs, avoid sandwiches bought on the plane and bring only a cabin bag (checked luggage costs 30 euros for some companies). Train For German cities near the border, the train is a solution to be studied. Jump on the SNCF and Deutch Bahn promotions to get a return ticket to Aix-la-Chapelle (€ 62), Cologne (€ 70) and Dusseldorf (€ 80). Travel time will be longer than by plane. A car is cost-effective if you are transporting other passengers on long stays (forget about a weekend in Berlin). Indeed, from Paris to Dusseldorf, you will pay 13.3 euros of French toll and spend “in theory” about forty liters of fuel. Assess the real traffic conditions if you are starting from larger cities, where traffic jams will waste time and money. Another problem with the car is parking. Those who pay are generally more expensive than in France. Police very quickly take away badly parked cars for a pound, with a fine of € 150.
Cheap accommodation and food
Youth hostel, anchored in German customs German hostels are known to everyone despite their name, generally very clean, the welcome is warm and the prices are very competitive. They often offer double or triple rooms. If you choose a dormitory (18 € / night), they are not mixed. Buy a Hi Hostel International membership card at the nearest youth hostel (€ 20 in France) which will give you a 10% discount on every night spent at AJ around the world. The Auberge diet mostly offers breakfast, sometimes other meals, whether or not they are included in the room rate. If you want to go out, restaurants on the go are generally cheaper than in France. Near the university city, a good plan is to eat in excellent university restaurants where student tickets are rarely seen (allow 2-3 euros for a full meal and human contacts worthy of a language stay). * Prices recorded in June 2021.
